JAY (AP) – Newly elected Delaware County Clerk Barbara Barnes officially took over as the Delaware County Clerk Thursday.
During a special meeting called for the ceremony, the commission accepted the official resignation of former Delaware County Clerk Carol Fortner and swore Barnes in to server Fortner's unexpired term that would have ended on December 31.
“I'm excited. I have been dreaming for this for a long time,” said Barnes, smiling from behind the desk in her new office. “This office is the hub of the courthouse.”
“I've been here working since Oct. 1 and I've learned a lot, but still have a lot to learn,” she admitted.
Barnes said she has been attending classes and will be studying and learning as fast as she can.
