TAHLEQUAH — The Cherokee Nation Election Commission is searching for its fifth and final member. The CNEC is accepting resumes until April 16, at 9 a.m.
Cherokee Nation law dictates that the CNEC be comprised of five members, two appointed by the principal chief, two appointed by the tribal council and one appointed by the sitting election commissioners.
Election commissioners must not be serving as or related to a Cherokee Nation elected official by blood or marriage, be an employee of the Cherokee Nation or any of its business entities, be a candidate for public office or be employed or related to a candidate for public office. Additionally, candidates must have a clean criminal record.
