Jennifer Lynn Ford and Earlene White joined 23 women from across the state who recently graduated from the second annual Oklahoma CareerTech Women in Leadership program. Ford is the health careers instructor at Northeast Technology Center in Pryor, and White is the Business and Information Technology Education instructor at Northeast Technology Center in Afton.
Four meetings were held with each having an emphasis on specific skill development. Sessions were held in Lawton, Bartlesville, Norman and Stillwater.
“The purpose of Women in Leadership is to develop leadership skills in CareerTech Women as they progress through their careers,” said Alice Rushmore, development specialist at the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
The program’s objectives are to empower women in CareerTech education, to develop the strategies and skills to be more effective leaders. Participants shared leadership insights and compared experiences with other women in leadership positions addressing organizational and personal challenges.
Session topics included suggestions on how to improve an organization’s business processes, building and sustaining relationships with co-workers, community members and customers. In addition, the participants practiced effectively communicating information to provide consistent customer satisfaction, influencing others, demonstrating business sense, helping others understand the goals of the organization and working within a budget.
