OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A report prepared for the Oklahoma Arts Council finds that sunlight shining through the state Capitol's dome is affecting some artwork in the building.
The Oklahoman reports that a portrait of former Gov. and U.S. Sen. Robert S. Kerr has been affected by the sunlight. The study also found that a painting of Alice Robertson receives 61 times the acceptable level of sunlight on certain days. Robertson was the first Oklahoma woman to be elected to Congress.
The dome was added to the Capitol in 2002. The council's executive director says the light will eventually destroy the artwork if nothing is done.
The report by Blackthorne Associates recommends installing a screen material that would reduce the light levels on the artwork.
