RAMONA - An overtime victory against Pawhuska put the Adair Warriors in the Regional Finals Saturday night. Adair defeated the Huskies 64-59 with the help of a 23-point performance by Seth Stricklen.
It was Stricklen’s five, three pointers in the first half that kept the Warriors in the game. Adair held a 13-11 lead after the first eight minutes. At the end of the second half, the Warriors were up 30-24.
In the second half, Coach Brad Rogers said the Huskies put their focus on Stricklen opening up more shots underneath the basket. At one point the Warriors took a 13-point lead but Pawhuska battled back keeping the game close.
The Huskies scored the first overtime points but it was Adair that walked away with the win. The victory over Pawhuska gave the Warriors some redemption after last year’s loss to the Huskies in the Regional Tournament.
Rogers said both teams returned many of the same players making the game more of a rematch.
“It was good to get them back,” Rogers said.
The Warriors were led by Stricklen’s 23 points. He got help from teammate Heath Peper’s 17 points. Brady Bradbury contributed 15.
The win put the Warriors in the Regional final with Verdigris at 8 p.m., Saturday. The win also secured their spot in next week’s Area Tournament in Bixby. The Regional Champions, runner-up and consolation winner advance to Area.
