LG finishes season sweep of Jay
JAY - Great teams respond after adversity.
The Locust Grove Pirates did that Tuesday as they bounced back from their first loss of the season to beat Jay, 80-64.
“It’s great to come back and get the win,” said Head Coach Ronnie Maple after his team’s win over the Bulldogs. Maple was pleased with his team’s ability to shake off their first loss, and get the lopsided win.
“We put the game away early,” Maple said of his team, who led 25-11 after the first quarter and 22-point lead at the half, 47-25.
“We didn’t play well in the second half,” Maple added, but his team was able to come away with the victory. Jay outscored the Pirates in the second half, 39-33.
C.J. Stafford led the way for the Pirates with 27 points.
“C.J. is playing very well right now,” said Maple of his guard. Maple said his team has real good balance right now, and if a team focuses on their post players, the guards step up and vice versa.
Pud Ross finished with 14 points. Kevin Pilant had 12 and Chase Knott had 11.
The Locust Grove Lady Pirates also got the win Tuesday, 57-49. The Daily Times was not able to get the box score.
Locust Grove travels to Kansas Thursday. The girls’ game tips off at 6:30 p.m.
