Manchell’s 34 sinks Trojans
SALINA - Dillon Manchell manhandled the Caney Valley Trojans scoring 34 game high points. His high scoring performance led the Salina Wildcats to a 66-48 win over Caney Valley Friday night. The Lady Wildcats also recorded a 68-35 win in front of a homecoming crowd.
The Wildcats played the early game, due to the homecoming festivities, and the change didn’t effect Salina’s game. In the first half, Salina traded leads several times with the Trojans. With 4:00 to go in the half, Caney Valley held a seven-point lead. With the help of Manchell’s 15 first half points, the Wildcats made a come back
ending the half up 28-26.
The two point lead began to grow in the third quarter and Salina never looked back. The Wildcats scored 29 third quarter points, 19 coming from Manchell. At the end of the third, Salina led 57-35.
The Wildcats held on to take a 66-48 win over Caney Valley. Manchell may have been the leading scorer but he got some help from his teammates. Paul Harvey added 12 points and Ty Thompson contributed 8. Ty Stewart chipped in six, Jerod Gates had four and Dalton Daniels added two.

Lady Wildcats have no problem with Caney Valley
In the late game, the Lady Wildcats were led by Courtney Backward’s 18 points and Kayla Morgan’s 15. Salina took a 15-4 lead in the first quarter and by half time held Caney Valley to only 12 points. At the end of the half, the Lady Wildcats were up 33-12.
The assault on Caney Valley continued in the third quarter and didn’t stop until the buzzed end the quarter. Up 55-22, Salina’s Cherish Barry hit a three point shot at the buzzer to give the Lady Cats a 58-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Three point shots by Backward and Reesa Cowan gave the Wildcats enough fire to finish off the Lady Trojans and take a 68-35 win.
Backward and Morgan led the Salina girls in scoring but got help from Cowan and Gann’s 10 points each.
Salina will be back in action Monday when they host a makeup game with Oklahoma Union. Tipoff is 6:30 p.m.
