Pirates dominate; buzzer beater sinks Lady Pirates

GROVE - A furious comeback attempt came up just short as the hot Locust Grove Lady Pirates lost to Grove, 41-39.

Peri Lane, who was crowned Homecoming Queen Friday, hit a layup as time expired to lift the Lady Ridgerunners to the win.

Prior to that, Sabina Burton had tied the game with a three-pointer, which capped off a 7-0 run in 41 seconds.

Grove led 39-32 when Balie Neel hit a three-pointer to pull the Lady Pirates within four. The Lady Ridgerunners turned it over and Neel got fouled. She drained one of the free throws to make it a three-point game.

Grove had a chance to put the game away, but missed both free throws, allowing Burton to hit the game tying three.

Neel led the Lady Pirates with 15 points. Courtney Freeman had 12.

The Pirates had no trouble dispatching of the Ridgerunners in the boys game. Locust Grove won 62-28.

Locust Grove hosts Pryor Tuesday, with the girls game tipping off at 6:30 p.m.
