LG gets homecoming sweep of Miami
LOCUST GROVE - Two wins on homecoming night equals a clean sweep for Locust Grove’s basketball teams. The boys defeated Miami 74-45 in the early game while the Lady Pirates beat the Lady Wardogs 49-36.
Pud Ross, CJ Stafford, Adrian Houser and Trey Conner led the Pirate offense, all scoring in double digits. Locust Grove jumped out to a big lead scoring 25 first quarter points with the help of two three point shots by Conner. At the end of the first quarter, the Pirates were up 25-14. Stafford’s six, second quarter points helped the Pirates jump to a 42-24 lead at the half.
Ross continued the attack in the third quarter adding nine of his 19 points in the game. At the end of the third quarter, Locust Grove was up 59-43. Miami didn’t have a chance in the fourth quarter, as the Pirate defense held the team to only two points. Locust Grove went on to win 74-45.
Ross led the team with his 19 points while Stafford had 18, Houser had 15 and Conner added 10.

In the late game, the ladies clenched the sweep playing strong in the second half. Early the Lady Pirates took a 14-6 lead in the first quarter with Balie Neel, Taylor Loffer and Breanna Jarrell leading the way. A three point shot by Sarah Boren helped the Lady Pirates cushion their lead. With 3:14 to go in the half, Courtney Freeman stole the ball and scored to give Locust Grove a 24-16 lead at half time.
After the break, Erica King kept Locust Grove in the lead with two, three point shots in the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter the Lady Pirates were up by 10.
A strong performance by Freeman in the second half helped Locust Grove secure the win. Freeman scored seven of her 12 points in the second half. A three point shot by Loffer in the fourth quarter gave the Lady Pirates a 44-27 lead. Miami struggled but began to come back getting back within 10. A basket by Sabina Burton and a pair of free throws by Freeman wrapped up the 49-36 win.

Pirates roll over Comets, Lady Comets too much for Lady Pirates

KANSAS - The 4A No. 14 Locust Grove Pirates continued to roll Thursday with a 85-51 victory at Kansas.
Kansas hung with the Pirates in the first quarter, as Locust Grove only had the 23-17 advantage.
The second quarter was the difference as the Pirates outscored the Comets 23-6 and had a 46-23 halftime lead.
Kansas couldn’t slow the powerful Pirates in the second half as Locust Grove scored 22 in the third and 17 in the fourth.
Trey Conner led the Pirates with 17 points, and Chase Knott had 13. The Pirates had 11 players score in the contest.

Kansas explosive offense downs LG
High-powered 3A No. 2 Kansas was too much for the visiting Lady Pirates in the opening game of the night.
The Lady Comets had a 20-14 lead after one, and led 45-31 at the break.
The hopes of a Locust Grove comeback were squashed in third quarter as Kansas outscored them 18-6.
Courtney Freeman led Locust Grove with 15 points. Breanna Jarrell had 12 and Sarah Boren had 11.
Locust Grove travels to the Fort Gibson Tournament, which starts Monday.

Pryor makes history with 3A state title win
In 82 years of Oklahoma American Legion baseball, no one has done it. Well, no one except the Pryor Tigers. For the first time in Oklahoma American Legion baseball history, one town has collected the 2A and 3A state titles in the same year. The 3A Tigers made that official with 3-2 and 7-6 wins over Edmond Memorial Saturday.
