PRYOR - The Pryor Tigerettes may be on the verge of pulling an upset just in time for the playoffs.
The Tigerettes once again played a good opponent, this time the Jay Lady Bulldogs, but came up just short in a 46-40 loss.
Last week, Pryor gave two highly ranked teams good games as well in Claremore and Coweta.
Things started off well against Jay as the tipoff went to Mason Goforth who immediately dished it to Tishena Montoya for a quick layup.
Pryor held the lead at 6-4, until Jay reeled off six straight to make it 10-6. Pryor tied the game back up at 10-10, but Jay had the lead at the end of the first quarter, 15-12.
Neither team scored in the first 2:45 of the second quarter. Taylor Arnold broke the drought with a layup. Jay kept Pryor from taking the lead back, and went into the locker room with a 23-18 lead.
Fort Hays State signee Hannah Ritter gave Jay their biggest lead with a three-pointer to make it 28-20. But again, Pryor would not let them pull away and kept the lead at five at the end of the quarter.
Ritter hit another three to start the quarter to push it back out to eight. Pryor battled back and an Arnold three-pointer cut it down to 37-36. But that would be as close as the Tigerettes would get. Jay hit some free throws in the final minute to salt away the win.
Goforth led Pryor with 10 points. Ritter led all scorers with 23.

Pryor gets hot early, doesn’t let up
A week ago, Jay and Pryor played a classic battle that went into overtime. Monday was the polar opposite as the Tigers rolled easily over the Bulldogs 55-36.
After Jay took a quick 2-0 lead, Pryor responded with nine straight. By the end of the quarter, Pryor led 18-9, 15 of those points coming from seniors Parker Ballard and Jordan Madole.
Madole kept his hot shooting going in the second and Pryor built the lead to double digits, 36-20. Madole had 14 and nailed four three-pointers in the process.
Pryor kept their foot on the gas in the second half, getting a 48-26 lead at the end of the third, and coming away with the 19-point win.
Madole led the way for Pryor with 16 points and seven rebounds. Ballard had 15 points. Chucky Larrabee was Jay’s leading scorer with 7.
Pryor hosted Wagoner Tuesday night. See those results in Thursday’s paper. The Tigers travel to Grove Friday. Tipoff for the girls game is 6:30 p.m.
