A flurry here. A flash there.
Only problem was, there was not enough of either.
Pryor showed signs of promise Tuesday night.
Tahlequah showed signs of reality.
And the reality was, Tahlequah was better this time around.
Tahlequah rolled over Pryor, 59-33, at the Burdick Center in a high school girls basketball game that featured Tigers all around.
For stretches, Pryor kept the pressure on the eighth-ranked Class 5A visitors.
And then, for other stretches, Tahlequah left an impression on the home team and the hometown crowd.
Tahlequah managed a 14-11 first-quarter lead, thanks only to a buzzer-beating basket by Jhonette Cookson.
Even though Tahlequah pulled ahead by 11 in the second period, Pryor put together a run that closed the gap to 31-25 three minutes into the third period.
But back-to-back 3-pointers triggered a Tahlequah explosion that left the home team gasping for air. The visitors outscored the home team, 22-2, over 6 1/2 minutes that spanned the third and fourth quarters.
Tahlequah more than doubled the home team in field goals, 21-10. The home team also committed 31 turnovers.
In the third period, when Tahlequah pulled away to a 42-27 advantage, the visitors received points from five players. Pryor was restricted to the nine-point scoring output of Lynzi Morgan.
Tahlequah made good on 21-of-44 field-goal attempts, 48 percent, while converting 11-of-15 free throws.
After starting off with a 4-for-5 shooting effort in the first quarter, Pryor went 6-for-27 over the final three periods, finishing at 31 percent.
Tahlequah threw in six 3-pointers, Pryor one.
Tahlequah, which lost to Class 4A No. 1 Fort Gibson on Friday, is 13-4 with seven wins in its last eight games.
Pryor is 4-12.
Notes ... Charles KnifeChief is an assistant coach under Tahlequah’s Chad Walker. He was the head coach at Chouteau the last two seasons. …
Tahlequah sophomore Randee O’Donnell led all rebounders with eight. Junior reserve Tara Shelby had five for Pryor.
