Adair sweeps, LG splits and Pryor swept

COLCORD - The Colcord Lady Hornets came ready to play with the 3A No. 2 Adair Lady Warriors Tuesday, but Adair swatted them away and won 56-44.

Colcord matched Adair shot for shot in the first as the game was tied at 15 apiece after one.

Adair stifled the rally in the second quarter, outscoring Colcord 14-6 behind six points apiece by Chelsey Stricklen and Chelsie Root. Adair led 29-21 at the half.

The Lady Warriors continued to distance themselves from the Lady Hornets in the third. Adair outscored Colcord 19-9 in the quarter, nine of which came from Stricklen and Liz Peters added two, three-pointers. Adair built the lead to 48-30 going into the final quarter.

Colcord tried to rally, but could only gain six points on the Lady Warriors in the fourth.

Chelsey Stricklen put another big performance for the Lady Warriors, scoring 27. Root had 12 and Tamara Harris had 11. Alena Sanders led Colcord with 14.

Warriors defense stalls Colcord



The Adair Warriors shut down Colcord in the boys game, only giving up 24 points in a 37-24 win.

The Warriors improved to 3-0, which is halfway to the number of wins the team had all of last year.

The game was tight in the first half as the Warriors led 17-13 going into the locker room.

But the third quarter belonged to the Warriors who outscored the Hornets 10-1.

Heath Peper led the Warriors with 13 points.

Adair is in action Thursday against Chouteau. Adair hosts Chouteau starting at 6:30 p.m.

Big 1st quarter lifts Wagoner over LG



WAGONER - The 4A No. 12 Wagoner Lady Bulldogs used a 20-1 first quarter to hold off the Locust Grove Lady Pirates Tuesday, 61-46.

After the big first quarter, Locust Grove outscored Wagoner 28-22 in the second and third. However, they weren’t able to make up any of the deficit.

Breanna Jarrell led Locust Grove with 16. Wagoner’s Janae McJunkins led all scorers with 21. Meagan Love had 11.

Houser’s 21 lifts LG over Bulldogs



The Locust Grove Pirates got a good road win to start the season, 63-58 over the Bulldogs.

The game was tight in the first as Locust Grove led 14-11 after one quarter and 36-33 at the half.

The Pirates extended their lead to 48-39 going into the fourth quarter, holding the Bulldogs to only six points in the third frame.

Wagoner was not able to rebound from the deficit.

Adrian Houser led Locust Grove with 21 points. Pud Ross and Trey Conner had 10 apiece. Jordan Lewis had 26 for the Bulldogs to lead all scorers.

No. 3 Coweta too much for Tigerettes



COWETA - The Pryor basketball teams were swept Tuesday by two talented Coweta squads. The No. 3 ranked Lady Tigers beat the Tigerettes 57-36 and the No. 20 ranked Coweta Tigers beat the Pryor Tigers 70-59.

In the girls game, Coweta jumped out to a 17-6 first quarter lead. At the half the Lady Tigers led 33-17.

Coweta led 50-28 going into the fourth quarter. Pryor outscored the Lady Tigers 8-7 in the final frame.

Mason Goforth led the Tigerettes with 13 points. Coweta’s Katy Harsen led all scorers with 27. Pryor held all-state candidate Jenni Bryan to 10 points.

Pryor falls behind early, can’t catch up to Coweta



Coweta couldn’t shake Pryor Tuesday, but a big first quarter helped the home team to the victory.

Coweta led 16-8 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 32-22 at the half.

Pryor hung with Coweta in the second half, as Coweta only outscored them 38-37, but Pryor wasn’t able to dig into the deficit.

Parker Ballard led Pryor with 19 points. Jordan Madole had 15 and P.J. Stimson had 14.

Pryor plays its first home game of the season Friday when they host Locust Grove. The girls game tips off at 6:30 p.m.
