PRYOR - A nine-run third inning that included a grand slam by P.J. Stimson lifted the 3A Pryor Tigers to a 12-4 victory over Vinita Tuesday.
To that point, Pryor had been three-up, three-down in the first and second, but the bottom of the lineup got them started in the third. Trailing 1-0, Shane Holloway drew a walk and Ryan Hendricks singled to left. Rhett Eichelberger also singled, which loaded the bases.
Blake Heston brought them all home with a line drive to the right center field gap. Heston tried to stretch the double into a triple, but was tagged out at third.
Dalton Murphy kept it going, singling to right, and Ben Jacks was hit by a pitch. Christian Doty walked to load the bases once again. That brought up P.J. Stimson who hit the ball so hard, the Vinita outfielders didn't even move to make a play on it. They just admired it as it traveled well onto the little league fields.
But the Tigers weren't done. Stump, on his second at bat of the inning, was hit by a pitch. Holloway brought him in with a RBI double. Hendricks walked and Eichelberger got his second hit of the inning, this time a RBI single.
Vinita was finally able to get out of the inning, but the damage had been done and the Tigers led 9-1.
Vinita kept it interesting for awhile, scoring two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, but the Tigers were able to put the run rule into effect in the bottom of the fifth.
Eichelberger singled to start the Tigers off and reached second on an error. Heston walked, and Murphy brought in both runners with a RBI double. Pryor just needed one more run to end the game, and Jacks swapped places with Murphy, doubling to left and scoring Murphy.
Tatyn Fee got the start and the win against his old team.
