CLAREMORE - Four Salina errors, three of them in the first inning, doomed the Wildcats Monday against the 2A Claremore Pixley Pirates.
The 7-2 game was sort of an oddity. Salina had seven base hits, but only managed two runs, while Claremore only managed three base hits but had seven runs.
The three first inning errors put Claremore up 2-0. In the third, the Pirates added three more when a base hit went under the left fielder’s glove and scored two. A sacrifice fly pushed another run across to make it 5-0.
Salina got on the board in the fifth. Jake Johnson led off the inning with a double, then moved to third on a passed ball. Clayton Eubanks hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Johnson for the run.
Claremore got two more in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-1.
In the top of the sixth, Lucien Littledave got to first on a single to center and was brought home by a Ty Stewart RBI triple.
In the seventh, the Wildcats got two hits, including Eubanks second hit of the game, a double, but couldn’t get a rally going.
Johnson got the start on the mound, pitching the first three innings. Dalton Daniels pitched the final three.
