Adair holds on for win

ADAIR — Adair held off Salina at home Tuesday 68-62 to move to 13-7.

Salina led the first three quarters, and although Adair emerged the victor, Salina senior Cale Backward stole the show with eight three-pointers.

A one-point Salina lead after one turned into a six-point margin at the half.

Adair wasn’t without contributions from downtown; Brady Bradbury dropped two and Greg Oxford, four.

Backward left the game in the third with an ankle injury but later returned briefly in the fourth (long enough to strike again from long range).

Adair and Salina put on a three-point shooting clinic in the final period.

Wildcats Kyle Johnson and Mark Cowan drained two three’s apiece.

Bradbury and Oxford combined for three treys.

Ultimately, Adair tipped the scales by way of free throws. The Warriors attempted 28 from the charity stripe, while Salina shot only four.

Adair Head Coach Travis Cannady attributes consecutive stops late to the victory.

“Cale had a great game,” Cannady said. “That kid is one heck of a shooter. I challenged Brady at halftime to defend better. Cale kept shooting well, but he didn’t have as many easy looks.”
