PRYOR, OK —
With a two-week scrimmage season under their belts, Pryor's Tigers are taking aim at a big year in 2013.
Pryor finished the 2012 campaign ranked No. 9 in Class 5A and ended the season with two losses to eventual state runner-up Claremore.
The Tigers, coached by Greg Osborne, return six starters from last year's 21-15 squad, including seniors Zack Hammock, Casey Holloway and Foster McCullough.
Hammock will see time on the mound as well as at shortstop and in the outfield. Hammock hit .358 with 32 RBIs in 2012.
Second-baseman Holloway stole a school-record 40 bases last season while hitting .312. Holloway also scored 40 runs.
McCullough, in his last season in a Tiger uniform, will hold down first base.
Catcher Justin Thomas, who hit .284 and batted in 13 runs as a freshman, returns to protect home plate as a sophomore in 2013. Thomas also stole 10 bases last year.
Junior Nate Wolfe will return to anchor the Tiger pitching rotation in 2013. Wolfe pitched 60 1/3 innings during his sophomore season, tops among returning hurlers, on his way to a 6-4 record and a 3.48 ERA. Wolfe also fanned 55 batters.
Hammock and junior Kelvin Grubbs return to fill out the Pryor pitching staff.
Hammock struck out 49 batters in 59 2/3 innings last season, notching a 5-4 record and a 3.52 ERA. Grubbs' 2012 ERA (3.03) is the best among the Tigers' returning pitchers.
Grubbs also mans third base.
The Tigers are set to begin play Friday at home against Tulsa Central. The first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
The Central game is the first in of four straight home games for Pryor to start the season. The Tigers will host a double-header Saturday, taking on NOAH at noon and Oologah at 5 p.m.
Pryor will entertain Tulsa East Central Monday to wrap up the season-high four-game home stand.
The Tigers will travel to Pensacola, Fla. for the Aggie Classic over spring break, March 18 through 21, before coming home to co-host the Tiger-Zebra Classic with Claremore March 28-30.
Pryor will hit the big stage April 4, taking on Collinsville under the lights at OneOK Field in Tulsa at 7:30 p.m.
