Chouteau, Locust Grove advance to area tournaments

Despite souring losses in Saturday's regionals, both the Locust Grove and Chouteau-Mazie boys advanced to area tournaments.

In a Class 4A regional final at Henryetta, the Pirates succumbed to top-ranked Roland 72-67, two days after dispatching District 1 winner Seminole 57-48 to secure a bid in the area tourney.

The loss drops LG into an elimination game against Fort Gibson at the Muskogee Civic Center Thursday at 3 p.m.

Northeast delivered a 55-46 blow to Chouteau-Mazie in their 2A regional winners' bracket matchup Saturday at Mounds.

The Wildcats, 68-47 winners over Oklahoma Union Feb. 23, fall into area losers' bracket contention Thursday against Kiefer. That game tips at 3 p.m.

Both the Chouteau-Mazie and and Locust Grove boys must win three straight games to advance to state.
