PRYOR —
PRYOR - Pryor inched a little closer to a finals showdown with Edmond Memorial Wednesday, defeating Claremore-Seqouyah, 2-1, in the Oklahoma American Legion 3A State Tournament.
Whisman pitched all seven innings and continually worked out of jams to help the Tigers get the victory.
Sequoyah jumped ahead with a run in the top of the second, and Pryor didn’t answer until the bottom of the fourth.
In that inning, Dalton Murphy and Zekke Stump singled to left.
Brett Mitchell drove in Murphy with a RBI single. After an infield single by Treyce Epps, Chris Ashley singled to left to bring in another run.
That would be all that the Tigers would need.
Whisman, who reccently signed to play for Northern Oklahoma in Tonkawa, struck out seven in the contest.
Sequoyah managed seven hits against him, but could only get one run across.
Pryor needed one more win Thursday to get into the finals against Edmond Memorial.
Those game results will be in Sunday’s paper.
The finals will be best two out of three at Pryor.
The first game is Friday at 7 p.m.
The second is Saturday at 7 p.m. and the if game is Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
The Pryor teams are sponsored by Sullivan and Lewis Post 182.
