Grove batters Pirates, 10-8

Special to The Times

LOCUST GROVE — The Grove Ridgerunners pounded out 19 hits Tuesday and defeated Locust Grove, 10-8, in a high school baseball game.

The Ridgerunners scored in every inning but the sixth in the back-and-forth affair that featured three ties and three lead changes.

Grove built a 7-4 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but the Pirates came back with three of their own in the home half.

The Ridgerunners took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring twice.

Locust Grove punched across a run in the bottom of the sixth on a double by Cody Jenkins, but Grove’s Gibson Russ took the mound in relief with one out and shut the door on the Pirates, allowing two hits and one walk for the save.

Seven different Ridgerunners had at least two hits. Three collected three hits apiece.

Jenkins had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Pirates. Shortstop Justin Bailey also had two hits, including a two-run home run that tied the game at 7-7 in the fourth inning.
