Adair on 3-game losing streak

ADAIR — Undefeated Ketchum handed Adair their fourth loss of the season Monday, 79-52, in the Bank of Locust Grove Invitational Tournament.

Four steals near midcourt by Ketchum in the first quarter, and domination of offensive rebounds opened up a 19-8 lead heading into the second.

Ketchum senior forward Jeylyn Sharpe’s block on freshman guard Cody Eby in the second set the tone for Adair’s attempted paint points.

Adair didn’t get to the the free throw line in the first half, and Ketchum took a trip to the stripe once.

Sharpe drained a fade-away three-pointer at the buzzer to give Ketchum a 39-15 halftime lead.

Although Adair adjusted after the break with a concerted effort to drive the lane,  Ketchum stormed ahead 44-21 with 5:17 in the third.

Sharp-shooting from Adair freshman guard Jereme McCollum (three from beyond the arc) in the second half helped cut the lead to 11 before Ketchum pulled away again.

“They shot 68 percent from the field and we didn’t do a good enough job of keeping them in front of us,” said Adair Head Coach Travis Cannady. “Give them credit.”

Senior point guard Brady Bradbury scored 24 points, followed by senior forward Jordan Fleming’s 12.

McCollum dropped nine, all coming from long-range.



Conference Play

The Warriors fell to Nowata Tuesday on the road, 58-54.

The loss completes a three-game losing streak for Adair.

Cannady cited his team’s second-half performance as reason for the close loss.

“The key to this loss was that we we turned the ball over 15 times and gave up 20 offensive boards,” Cannady said. “Our guys were disappointed in the locker room after the game, but they’re definitely not a group that will roll over and play dead.”

Adair faces Grove in the second round of the the Bank of Locust Grove Invitational Tournament Friday at 8:45 p.m.
