Tigers are back and taking aim at Classic field

Leaving the sunshine and beaches of Florida behind, the Pryor Tigers returned home over the weekend and will begin to reacquaint themselves with springtime baseball in Oklahoma over the next few days.

The Tigers, who took part in a 16-team tournament in Pensacola during their spring break last week, have a date at Claremore Tuesday before the three-day Tiger/Zebra Classic unfolds on Thursday.

The Tigers went 2-2 in Florida, where teams from Oklahoma – Pryor, Claremore, Fort Gibson, Washington – competed with high school squads from Florida, Alabama and Tennessee.

In their final game before departing, the Tigers fell to Escambia, Fla., 6-1, moving their record to 8-5.

They will put their No. 5 Class 5A ranking up against No. 1-ranked Claremore in Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. at Legion Field.

Claremore was 3-1 in Florida, losing its first game of the season. The Zebras are 12-1 overall.

One of the highlights of the Tigers’ trip came as they were preparing for Tate, Fla., in the tournament opener. Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Eight teams will take part in the Tiger/Zebra Classic set for Pryor and Claremore.
