Tigers run rule Grove to start season

PRYOR - The Pryor Tiger baseball team opened the year in midseason form Tuesday with a 8-0 run rule win against Grove.

The first inning looked like two teams who haven't played a whole lot of baseball. Grove loaded the bases in the top of the first, but a Zekke Stump barehanded a groundball down the third base line and zipped it to Rowdy Dove at first to get the Tigers out of the jam unscathed.

In the bottom of the inning, Dalton Murphy ripped one down the left field line to start the bottom of the first with the double. He moved to third on a passed ball, and Shane Holloway picked up the RBI with a groundout to second. Pryor would get the bases loaded, but Grove got Ryan Hendricks to line out to shortstop to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Holloway started the inning with a line drive to the base of the left center field wall and ended up at second base. That was followed by a shot by Dove, nearly to the same spot, but over the wall for a two-run homer. At the end of three, Pryor led 3-0.

In the fourth, Dove drew a bases loaded walk to get another run in, and an error brought home Blake Heston and Murphy. The third baseman was throwing home, but it got past the catcher. Heston scored easily and Murphy didn’t hesitate going around third and also scored. The last run of the inning came on Stump's RBI single, which scored Dove.

In the fifth, Hendricks got on with a single to right and moved to second on a passed ball. A Chris Ashley sacrifice fly moved him to third, and Heston ended the game with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Ashley got the start and gave up one dinker of a single that dribbled about 10 feet from home plate. After that, the Ridgerunners didn’t touch him, as he struck out six in the process.
