Pirate payback; LG beats Fort Gibson for title

FORT GIBSON - The Locust Grove Pirates got a little bit of payback Saturday, as they upset the No. 5 Fort Gibson Tigers, 62-53 in the final of the Old Fort Classic.

After a 12-11 first quarter in favor of Fort Gibson, the Pirates took the lead, 27-20 by the halftime intermission.

The Pirates continued to build the lead in the third quarter and led 45-33 going into the final quarter.

Trailing by 10 with 2:31 to go in the fourth quarter, the Tigers made a run. Fort Gibson cut it down to 57-53. But the Pirates made their free throws, four of which came from C.J. Stafford, to come away with the win.

Adrian Houser had 19 points and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Chase Knott had 13 and Stafford had 10.

Lady Pirates finish 3rd



The Lady Pirates closed out the Old Fort Classic with a third place finish.

Locust Grove beat Stilwell 50-46.

Locust Grove led 15-11 after one, but Stilwell held the lead at the break, 23-21.

The game was tied going into the fourth, 33-33, but the Lady Pirates had the advantage in the fourth for the win.

Courtney Freeman and Balie Neel had 12 points in the win. Taylor Loffer had 10. Breanna Jarrell was named to the all-tournament team.

Locust Grove travels to Vinita Tuesday. Tipoff for the girls game is 6:30 p.m.
