3A Tigers maul Metro in Summer Classic

PRYOR — The Pryor Tigers 3A Summer Classic got underway Thursday afternoon, as the Tigers blasted Metro Christian, 14-3.

The Patriots actually had the lead early, as they got back-to-back base hits off of Rowdy Dove and led 1-0 after the top of the first.

It was very short lived, as Pryor batted around in the first inning.

Ryan Hendricks fought off a two-strike pitch to lead things off and poked it into center field.

That was followed by Blake Heston’s bunt single.

After an out, Dalton Murphy was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Shane Holloway brought in the first run with a RBI single.

Then, Zekke Stump drew a bases loaded walk for the second run.

Brett Mitchell put the ball in play to second to score a run, and the throw was wild at first, so a second run came in.

Chris Ashley followed that with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 5-1.

Dove only needed four pitches in the second inning to get three outs, so the Tigers went back to work quickly.

The Tigers got nine runs in the inning.

There were three bases loaded walks and two passed balls that scored runs.

Dove also had a two-run home run over the center field fence, and Blake Heston drove in two with a single.

That would be all the Tigers would need to score for the victory.

Metro Chrstian got two runs in the top of the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to keep from enacting the run rule.

Pryor played rival Claremore later Thursday night. Look for those results in Sunday’s edition.

The Tigers play Carthage, Mo. on the second day of action, Friday, 8 p.m. The finals are Friday starting at 10 a.m. and ending with the championship at 5 p.m.
