NEW ORLEANS — No fooling, 109-1 shot Hero of Order won the $1 million Louisiana Derby (grade II) Sunday at Fair Grounds Race Course.
Hero of Order, with Eddie Martin Jr. aboard, paid $220.80, $79.80, and $25.40 across the board. It was a record win payoff for the Louisiana Derby.
Mark Valeski finished second by 1 1/2 lengths, with California invader Rousing Sermon rallying for third by a nose over Cigar Street.
Hero of Order came into the race with one win in 13 starts.
