Pirates move to 3-0

LOCUST GROVE - Locust Grove Pirate baseball added its third straight win with a 3-2 victory over Stilwell Thursday. The Pirates opened their season Monday with a 3-2 over Inola. On Tuesday, Locust Grove traveled to Tahlequah where they defeated the Tahlequah-Sequoyah Indians, 6-4.

In Thursday’s match up with Stilwell, the Pirates took 2-0 lead in the first inning. Chase Knott and Adrian Houser led off with walks. John Stanglin’s sacrifice fly scored Knott to give the Pirates the first lead of the game. Houser made his way home and the Pirates were up by two.

In the second inning, Locust Grove’s Brian Jenkins scored on a passed ball and Knott knocked in Bradley Shelly with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. Anthony Taylor also added a run to give the Pirates a 5-0 lead.

Stillwell answered back in the top of the third with three runs to narrow Locust Grove’s lead. The Pirates added one last run in the bottom of the fourth with Knott got on with a double and later scored on a Stanglin RBI.

Locust Grove held Stilwell from scoring to take the 6-3 win.

The Pirates travel to Wagoner Tuesday.
