Pryor’s baseball Tigers broke out of a four-game slump Friday night and throttled the Durant Lions, 7-3, in a battle of Class 5A Top 10 teams at Memorial Field.
The Tigers made the most of five hits off three pitchers, and took advantage of seven walks and three Durant errors.
Zack Hammock went the distance for the Tigers, giving up eight hits, striking out four and walking one. He was tough with men on base, leaving seven Lions stranded.
His teammates staked him to a two-run lead in the first as Justin Thomas drove in a run with a single and Foster McCollough drew a walk with the bases loaded.
They added four more in the second. Stephen Faircloth’s two-run double was the big blow. Brett Mitchell plated another with a sacrifice fly.
Casey Holloway scored three times and contributed a single. Nate Wolfe added an RBI double and was walked twice.
Colby Hicks, the third Durant pitcher, finally silenced the home team. Pitching the final two innings, Hicks rang up four strikeouts.
Durant finally broke through in the seventh. Hunter Stephens, who went 3-for-4, drove in two runs.
The Tigers split in their two games with Durant. On April 7, in Durant, the Lions prevailed, 8-0. Durant, ranked No. 5, is 23-10.
Pryor, ranked ninth, ended its four-game losing streak and posted its first win over a Top 5 team. The win was the Tigers’ 20th of the season.
