Even returning to their home turf did not help Pryor’s baseball Tigers Thursday night.
Playing their first game at Memorial Field in 10 days, the Tigers fell victim to McAlester’s Carter Cumbie, dropping a 7-2 decision.
It was the fourth straight loss for the Tigers, and their second setback to McAlester in two days.
The Tigers touched Cumbie for eight hits and drew three walks, but could not push across more than a single run in the third and seventh innings. They left eight runners stranded.
Cumbie helped his own cause, giving the Buffaloes a 1-0 lead in the first. After Adam Boyd led off with a double and advanced on a passed ball, Cumbie followed with an RBI infield single.
The Buffaloes struck for two runs apiece in the third, fifth and sixth innings off starter Brett Mitchell. Five of the runs were earned.
Six Buffaloes drove in runs and three collected two hits each.
Boyd led the way with three runs scored on his two hits and two walks. Brandon Grimsley and Lane Brock each had two hits.
The Tigers trailed, 3-0, when they scored an unearned run in the third.
Mitchell, who was 3-for-4, drove in a run in the seventh on an infield single.
Mitchell and Zack Hammock collected two hits apiece off Cumbie. Garrett Vernon scored both runs.
Mitchell gave way to Kelvin Grubbs at the start of the seventh. Mitchell walked four, struck out three and gave up nine hits.
The ninth-ranked Tigers, who played five games in McAlester since their last appearance at Memorial Field, dropped to 19-12.
McAlester, ranked sixth, is 23-8.
On Tuesday, McAlester defeated the Tigers, 17-4.
The Tigers are scheduled to close out the regular season at home with Skiatook at 5 p.m. Monday. In March, Skiatook defeated the Tigers, 2-1. Regional tournaments begin later this week.
