Adair teams sweep up

Special to The Times

ADAIR — The state-ranked Adair boys and girls won Class 3A high school basketball district championships Friday night in easy fashion.

The Adair boys, ranked 14th, swamped Dewey, 58-35.

The eighth-ranked girls rolled up an 84-23 win.

In the boys game, Hunter Neighbors scored 10 points and Theron Gilmer contributed nine as the Warriors marched out to a 33-11 halftime advantage.

From there, the outcome was academic.

Neighbors, a sophomore, finished with 16 points. Senior Logan Crawford scored 12 and Gilmer finished with 11.

Adair, 18-4, defeated Dewey, 63-49, in the only previous meeting this season.

Adair will move on to a regional tournament at Caney Valley on Thursday.

In the girls game, seven players hit 3-pointers as Adair posted its second lopsided win over the Bulldoggers.

Six players scored in the first quarter to help Adair move out in front, 15-8. By halftime, the score had bloomed to 34-14.

The last time they met, Adair stormed past Dewey, 61-21.

Shanna Harrison led Adair with 15 points. She received scoring help from 10 teammates.

Adair will take a 17-7 record to the Caney Valley regional on Thursday.
