TULSA — The Pryor Tigers broke out with 14 hits Tuesday and made short work of the Tulsa Hale Rangers, 13-2, in a high school baseball game.
Righthander Brett Mitchell was the beneficiary of the offensive surge, as he picked up the win on a two-hitter. He struck out seven and the game was shortened to six innings.
Zack Hammock set the pace for the Tigers, collecting two doubles among his four hits. Casey Holloway, Nate Wolf, Justin Thomas and Mitchell had two hits each.
The top three hitters in the Tigers’ lineup — Holloway, Hammock and Mitchell -- each drove in three runs.
Even with the basehit barrage, the Tigers were forced to come from behind to register their 13th win.
They scored to open the game, but Hale bounced back with two runs in the home first.
The Rangers’ lead did not last long. The Tigers scored four times in the second, with a Hammock double plating two.
The Tigers closed things out with another four-run burst in the sixth.
Holloway, in the leadoff spot in the order, scored three times. Foster McCollough, who walked twice, and Garrett Vernon each scored twice.
The Tigers, ranked fifth in Class 5A, have four straight home games. On Thursday, they take on Wagoner and Hale visits Memorial Field on Friday. Both games are scheduled for 5 p.m.
