Prep baseball winding down

High school baseball is entering the final three weeks of the regular season.

Pryor’s Tigers have been assigned to the Class 5A regional tournament in McAlester, May 3-5. Joining the Tigers in McAlester will be the host Buffaloes, Durant, Tulsa Central, Tulsa Memorial, Tulsa Hale, Oklahoma City Northwest and Noble.

Five of the eight teams scheduled for McAlester were ranked in the Top 15 last week by OkRankings.com — No. 5 Pryor, No. 7 McAlester, No. 8 Durant, No. 9 Tulsa Memorial, No. 15 Noble.

Regionals at the 5A level are double-elimination.

State tournament (May 10-12) sites for 5A will be at Union and Claremore in the first two rounds, and at Oral Roberts University for the finals.

Defending state champion Tulsa Kelley has moved up to 6A this season. No. 1-ranked Claremore will host its own regional.

Lower classifications, 2A, 3A and 4A, will begin district competition April 27-28. State tournaments for those classes will be held in Oklahoma City, Edmond and Shawnee.
