Dwight McElroy of Chouteau has been named to the high school All-State team, selected by the Oklahoma Coaches Association.
McElroy will be eligible to participate in the small-school All-State game July 26 in Tulsa.
The 6-4 McElroy was the only Mayes County player selected to the 40-player roster that will be divided into East and West, small school and large school.
As a senior, McElroy averaged 19 points and 14.5 rebounds per game as he led Chouteau through a 15-11 season that ended in the Class 2A area tournament.
He was voted Most Valuable Player of the Super Seven Conference.
As a junior, he was the ringleader of a team that despite its 13-12 record reached the state tournament for the first time in 36 years. For his four-year career, in which he played 100 games, McElroy scored 1,359 points and pulled in 1,092 rebounds.
The small-school squads are comprised of players from schools in classes 3A through B. The large-school teams take in players from classes 6A through 4A. Only seniors are eligible to be selected.
The Small East squad will be coached by Joel Dickerson of Wright City and Lance Kight of Sperry. Kight’s 6-7 pivot, C.J. Cole, will be a member of the 10-player squad. The Large East will feature 6-4 Jake Bullard of Vinita who led the Hornets to a 46-7 record over the last two seasons.
The All-State games will be played at the Mabee Center on the campus of Oral Roberts University during the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s convention week, July 22-27.
