NEO Hall of Fame to honor 2 teams

Northeastern A&M’s fifth class of Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be presented Saturday in Miami, Okla. A luncheon is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in the Calcagno Family Ballroom of the Bruce G. Carter Student Union on the NEO campus.

Five individuals and two National Junior College Athletic Association championship teams will be enshrined.  

NEO’s 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees are:

• Ruth Ann Hudspeth, an original NEO Norse Star.

• Monty Franks, contributor to NEO athletics for more than 40 years.

• Steve Watson, football player on the 1968 and 1969 NEO teams.

• Mike Furnas, football player on the 1980 NJCAA national football championship team and 1980 All-American.

• Posthumously Doug Furnas (1959-2012), football player on the 1980 NJCAA national football championship team.

• The 1967 national championship football team, led by coach Chuck Bowman. The team finished 9-1 and had three All-Americans.

• The 1989 basketball team, first Oklahoma team to win the NJCAA national championship. Led by coach Larry Gipson, the team set a school record with a 36-4 record.
