Wesley Douglas Cleveland

PRYOR — Wesley Douglas Cleveland, 51, Pryor, was a lifelong Oklahoma resident. He was born and raised in Tulsa and moved to Mayes County in 1984.

He worked for Brewers Construction Company for 15 years learning the steel building trade and opened WDC Construction, Inc., where he remained owner and president for some 13 years. Many of his buildings can be seen across the state and were a great source of pride.

The apple of his eye and the joy of his life is his daughter Tabitha, who brought into the family son-in-law Wesley and the only grandchild, Camdyn Wesley.

He loved life and always lived it to the fullest no matter what he was doing. It has been said that he only had two speeds, off and full blast, whether he was scuba diving, riding his motorcycles, jet skiing or driving his boats on Grand Lake. He loved fishing and spending leisure time at the lake and in his yard at the pool while enjoying family and friends and grilling steaks. One of his favorite holidays had to be the 4th of July as he was always good for a fireworks show.

He had the biggest heart and was always willing to give to others and help anyone in any way he could. Throughout his life, his constant companions were his animals. He could not stand to see a cat or dog homeless or hungry, which meant his life was always full with his “fur herd.” At one time he even had a baby bull that he bottle fed until ‘Bullie’ got to be too big to live in the back yard. His signature ear to ear smile garnered him the nickname ‘Smiley’ as a child and that stuck with him throughout his life.

He had been a proud member of the NRA, The Elks Lodge, Modern Woodman of America, and the First Baptist Church of Verdigris. He was a graduate of Charles C. Mason High School class of 1979 in Tulsa and held various certificates in the building and construction trade.

He is survived by his parents, Linda of Chouteau, Dale and Lynn of Fairland; brother Larry of Denton, Texas, brother Michael of Tulsa, sister Carole of St. Louis, Mo.; niece Chelsea of St. Louis, Mo.; nephew Brandon of Olathe, Kan.; daughter Tabitha and son-in-law Wes of Verdigris; grandson Camdyn Wesley of Verdigris; many aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderfully loving and caring neighbors, especially Phil and Trena, and Ken and Janie, his little dog, Copper, big dog, Shadow and “that cat,” Zoe.

Visitation is Thursday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at The First Baptist Church of Verdigris.

Memorial services are Friday, 2 p.m., at The First Baptist Church of Verdigris in Claremore.
