Obituary: Thelma Kirk

PRYOR — Funeral services for Thelma Kirk, 76, Pryor, are 11 a.m. Thursday, at Stephens Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Leslie Johnson will officiate and burial will follow at Bryan Chapel Cemetery, Boatman. Services are entrusted to Stephens Memorial Chapel

Kirk was born April 13, 1936 in Boatman to Lee and Opal (Davis) Kirk. She died April 14, in Oklahoma City.

Kirk attended Boatman school and Salina High School. She continued her education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and in 1960 earned her bachelor’s degree in education and four years later earned her master’s degree in education. Her first teaching assignment was at Erie, Kan. She returned to Pryor and taught at both Jefferson and Roosevelt Elementary Schools. Her teaching career spanned 29 years. Kirk retired on June 1, 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, working in the children’s department. Kirk moved to Oklahoma City in 2010 to be closer to her family. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her nieces, nephew and friends.

Kirk is survived by sister Jean Rucker of Oklahoma City, nieces Vicki and Lisa and nephew David and wife Michiko and a host of cousins.

The family will receive relatives and friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Stephens Memorial Chapel.
