Obituary: George Granville Jenkins

George Granville Jenkins, 77, retired Tulsa Firefighter, died Tuesday in Tahlequah.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow. Arrangements are under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Jenkins was born on July 29, 1934 in Tulsa, the son of James Edward and Evelyn (Long) Jenkins. He was a graduate of Will Rogers High School in Tulsa. At the age of thirteen he joined his father in his roofing company, J&J Roofing. He and Barbara Jo Duncan were married on Dec. 18, 1954 in Tulsa. He joined the Tulsa Fire Department in 1964 and retired from Station 7 in June 1985. Following his retirement the couple moved to Lake Tenkiller. Jenkins was a past Grand Master of the Cherokee Lodge #10 AF&AM. He had also served as Lodge Chaplain. He was also a member of the Bedouin Shrine.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, of Tahlequah; four children, Mark Jenkins and wife Kim, Steven Jenkins and Karen Lingle, Rhonda Bennett and husband David and Debra Bennett and husband Gordon; four brothers and sisters, Hazel Greer, James Jenkins, Ronnie Jenkins and Charlotte Kelly; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 great-grandchild.
