Obituary: Gary Dub Campbell

Gary Dub Campbell, 68, was born April 5, 1943, in Pryor, to Henry and Opal Campbell. He died Sunday.

He grew up in Locust Grove, graduating from Locust Grove High School in 1961. He was a football player and was given a full ride scholarship to play football at the University of Arkansas. Gary also served his country in the National Guard.

He was known as “Ooch.” He was in-volved with and an avid supporter of the Locust Grove Round-up Club. He donated to and supported children in the community with their extracurricular activities. He helped to coach little league football and had played in alumni games.

He worked at McDonnell-Douglas for over 27 years. When McDonnell-Douglas closed, he was given the opportunity to go back to college. For several semesters, he attended Tulsa Junior College where he made the President’s Honor Roll. He enjoyed taking care of his horses and enjoyed time spent going to estate sales and auctions. He treasured his granddaughters and was proud to buy them different musical instruments. He will be missed by all those that knew him.

Campbell is survived by one son, Johnathan Campbell and wife Jennipher of Broken Arrow; two granddaughters, Isabel and Kate; one sister, Carol Holman and husband Johnny of Locust Grove; three nephews, John Eric Holman of Locust Grove, Brannon Holman and wife Tanya of Peggs, and Derrick Holman and Stephanie of Irvine, Calif.; Numerous other relatives and a community full of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are 11 a.m., Thursday, at the First United Methodist Church in Locust Grove. The Rev. Doug Parker and the Rev. Rick Condit will officiate.
