Pryor Mayor Jimmy Tramel said the City of Pryor will see a shortfall of $360,000 in general funds by the end of this fiscal year.
March’s numbers showed a decrease of $780.24 from last year’s March figures. The city took its biggest hit for the year in January, when
tax dollars fell $117,883.29 short of the January 2009 numbers.
“I think it’s leveled off,” Tramel said. He said he feels people are spending what they have to spend.
Tramel said the city has to figure out how to offset $450,000 for the street department funds. The
portion of taxes going to the street funds are not sufficient to cover the costs of street repair.
Tramel said he is
concerned that the PYO building may be facing possible shutdown. The historic facility is leaking severely. Tramel said the library is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the city hall does not have a sprinkler system installed.
“These buildings have got to be updated,” he said.
Tramel said funding for capital improvements must come from a bond issue.
“Schools are a prime
example,” he said.
The mayor said he is not anticipating any layoffs or furloughs for city employees at this time.
