County plans cleanup days

PRYOR — Mayes County commissioners have set the dates for the annual county cleanup.

Saturday, April 16, and Sunday, April 17, are the dates for county residents to dispose of unwanted items.

Pryor Waste & Recycling will set up 40 to 50 containers at various locations around the county. There will be containers at the Mayes County Fairgrounds, Mazie, Strang and Langley fire departments, Disney City Hall, Pensacola Town Hall, the Locust Grove sewer plant and the three county barns in Adair, Chouteau and Salina.

The cleanup is for discarding large items such as couches, mattresses, refrigerators, and tanks. Items not acceptable include paint, tires, batteries or brush.

District 1 Commissioner Alva Martin said he will have a place to dump used motor oil at the county barn in Adair. The gates will be open at District 1 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Other containers not enclosed by gates will be available at all hours.

Commissioners approved a payment of $11,251.62 for annual bridge inspections. Martin said two-year inspections were conducted on 34 bridges in the county, all of them over 20 feet long.

Commissioners accepted fuel reimbursement funds for District 1. A reimbursement of $142.23 came from the firefighters’ revolving funds for fuel, and Mayes County Emergency Management paid $174.37 for fuel.

Disney Fire Department renamed its receiving and purchasing officers. Fire Chief Doug Andrews and JoAnn Sanders were named purchasing officers. Assistant Chief Larry Sanders Jr. and Eric Andrews are receiving officers. Paul Rush is the inventory clerk.
