Northeast Technology Center was recognized for receiving the Oklahoma Association of Technology Centers’ Gold Star School Award at the 2007 Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education Summer Conference, held August 1 through 3, at the Tulsa Convention Center . The conference, one of Tulsa ’s largest, attracts more than 3,500 educators from across Oklahoma .
The Gold Star School Award recognizes technology centers that have met rigid and demanding enrollment and placement criteria and professional staff standards, all demonstrating a high level of excellence. Northeast was one of 15 tech centers that were recognized out of the 29 career tech centers statewide. Eight staff members representing Northeast received the award on-stage from presenters Dr. Phil Berkenbile, director of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, and Patrick McGregor, executive director of the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education.
Northeast Technology Center is celebrating its 35th year of operation with this school year. Offering a full range of full-time daytime courses, scores of short-term evening classes, and business and industry services, Northeast strives to ensure that its students and clients become successful. Northeast currently has three campuses which serve all or parts of eight counties in northeast Oklahoma : one near Afton, one at Kansas , Oklahoma , and one between Pryor and Claremore. A fourth campus is being built in Claremore and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2009.
This is the second time Northeast Tech has been honored with the Gold Star School Award, having received the honor for the first time in 2002.
