Mayes County Clerk elect Brittany True was fined $250 by the Oklahoma Ethics Commission Friday for not filing her campaign reports on time.
True, as a candidate, was responsible for filing reports to the state Ethics Commission indicating campaign expenditures, a statement of financial interests and a designated agent for her campaign.
True released a statement saying: “I would like to address the OEC complaint filed against me. Once I realized that I needed to file my reporting forms with them I immediately contacted them to get the issue straightened out. I promptly turned in my forms and I am now in compliance. I believe there is a lesson to be learned in everything. I will know next time the steps that need to be taken. With my experience in the county clerk’s office and not in the campaigning field, I look forward to putting this behind me and becoming the new county clerk in January.”
True, 29, was elected Mayes County Clerk on June 26 when she defeated Bobbie Martin in the Democrat primary. No Republican or Independent filed for the office. True will take office in January. County clerks serve a four-year term.
