Pryor School Board held its monthly meeting Monday night.
The board approved an agreement between the Cherokee Nation and Mayes County CO-OP to participate in the Cherokee Nation Head Start Program.
Joe Green was hired to be a high school assistant football coach and teacher for the 2012 to 2013 school year.
Academically, the big news for the next school year will be Pryor Public Schools’ adoption of the Tulsa Model for teacher evaluation as approved by the state Board of Education for Teacher Learning Effectiveness. This is an evaluation system for teachers.
The board discussed whether the teacher evaluation system adopted by the board, the Tulsa Model, will be the only evaluation the system used for next school year or might they use the system in place in addition to the Tulsa Model. The board took no action.
The board selected the McREL Model from the two-leader evaluation models approved by the state Board of Education for Leader Effectiveness for the 2012 to 2013 school year. This is an evaluation system for school principals.
The board discussed whether the McREL Model will be the only leader evaluation system or if the board would also use the system they now have in addition to the McREL Model. The board took no action.
The board approved creating a Developmental First Grade class for the 2012 to 2013 school year. This is a class for children struggling in first grade.
The board approved the PK-3 handwriting curriculum (Handwriting without Tears) for the 2012 to 2013 school year. PK-3 is Pre-school, kindergarten to third grade.
The Superintendent’s Report congratulated District Teacher of the Year Lee Ann Willyard. Willyard teaches at Lincoln. Jefferson Teacher of the Year is Melba Harris, Roosevelt Teacher of the Year is Mandy Douglas, High School Teacher is Stephanie Bennett, Junior High Teacher is Katya Bonea and Lincoln Teacher of the Year is Angela Miller.
Google Data Centers Grant Fund of the Tides Foundation have given Pryor Schools $42,936.15 for library/technology materials for the Lincoln Early Childhood Center and a Computer Publishing Lab.
