Raise approved for Pryor employee

Billy Littlefield, maintenance employee for the City of Pryor, was approved for a raise by Pryor City Council.

Mayor Jimmy Tramel asked the council to give Littlefield a pay bump of $1,400 a year. The approved new salary is $27,468.

“I think he’s worth every bit of it,” said Tramel.

Littlefield, a one-year employee, works maintenance at the library and the recreation center. He has also helped with maintenance at the police department.

Tramel referred to Littlefield as a utility guy, who works anything from regulator to mechanical jobs.

“His job function is janitor,” Tramel said. “He gets someone from the jail and they work together.”

Littlefield fills in when employees are sick or on vacation. The mayor said the city has no one extra in the departments to cover when people are out.

Tramel said Littlefield is saving the city money by filling in because having it keeps the city from paying overtime. He said Littlefield has already saved the city more than the amount of his pay bump.

Tramel said without Littlefield to cover other employees, the city would “pay it out in overtime.”

When Littlefield is not filling in, Tramel said he is doing maintenance at the library and Pryor Creek Recreation Center.

“He does a little bit of everything,” said the mayor.

Tramel said Littlefield works with Mayes County Jail inmates on cleaning, painting and other maintenance. In summer, he takes the inmates and mows city property. Littlefield also digs graves at the cemetery when needed.

Councilman Garry Harris pointed out Littlefield has trained himself well on

equipment.

“I’m asking you to consider it for what he does,” Tramel said.
