The head walls are up on a new Brushy Creek bridge southwest of Chouteau.
Darrell Yoder, county commissioner for Mayes County District 2, said progress is going so well he expects the bridge to be completed ahead of schedule.
Beachner Construction is replacing the 10-foot bridge on 428 Road with a structure over 55 feet long. The county awarded the construction job to Beachner on their bid of $300,365. Yoder expects the construction to be completed by Christmas. The scheduled completion date is Jan. 8.
The Brushy Creek bridge project is one of two Mayes County bridges being funded by the national stimulus package.
Yoder reported that Plains Bridges began drilling piers for the Chouteau Creek Bridge, the second stimulus bridge. Chouteau Creek Bridge is scheduled to be
finished by Feb. 8.
Construction work on Elm Creek Bridge in District 1 is also
underway. Beachner Construction, the contractor on the bridge, tore out the old structure last week. The new Elm Creek bridge on 443 Road is projected to be finished by Jan. 8.
District 1 Com-
missioner Alva Martin said his district will begin replacement work this week on a bridge on 360 Road near Chelsea. The structure is a 12 x 6 bridge and will be replaced by three rows of 12 x 6 boxes, making it triple the current size.
The commissioners approved new floodplain regulations last week, but now must set a public hearing. Johnny Janzen, director of Mayes County Emergency Management, said the Oklahoma Water Resource Board will not approve the changes until the county holds a required public hearing. The public hearing will be held Monday, Dec. 21 at 9:30 a.m. in the commissioner meeting.
• Commissioners will recommend a termination of contract with Wingfield Engineering on the Pryor Creek bridge. Yoder said the bridge on 9th Street is not contracted through the county. Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) will have to terminate the contract.
• District 2 received $67,645.36 from ODOT for cleanup work on major collector roads. The cleanup work was done by the district after the January 2007 ice storm.
• District 2 is sending a payment correction to Robert Brown for right-of-way access along South Elliott Street. Yoder said the county owes Brown $1,955 on the right-of-way payment.
• The commissioners approved setting up a separate account for Federal Emergency Management Agency funding for the county’s hazard mitigation plan. County Clerk Rita Littlefield said the hazard mitigation plan account will be set up for auditing purposes. Commissioners transferred a $68,058 grant from FEMA into the account.
