Couple arrested in meth bust

A Mayes County couple was arrested and their infant daughter taken into protective custody following the discovery of a methamphetamine lab in their home.

Allen Rae Harman, 49, and Samantha Jo Sedgwick, 22, were arrested Oct. 22 following a tip to Mayes County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Lieutenant Charles Smallwood that a meth lab was in production and that children were in the home.

“An anonymous call was made that gave us the location and the names of those involved,” Smallwood said. He went to the residence accompanied by Denver Davenport, who is with the District Attorney’s Office, assigned to the District 12 Drug Task Force.

No one was home and the door was padlocked from the outside, but the familiar odor of meth manufacturing was evident to both men.

After waiting approximately 30 minutes, a vehicle carrying the couple and their infant daughter arrived at the home.

“We spoke to Allen about why we were there and he became visibly nervous,” Smallwood said. After consent to search was given, investigators entered the residence. There was no furniture in the home, other than the bedroom, where Harman and Sedgwick were staying with their three children. The older two children were not at home at the time of the search.

“The baby’s bottle and all of the baby’s stuff was in the room with the meth lab,” Smallwood said.

Statements given by both individuals indicated that they both had knowledge of the lab.

Harman and Sedgwick were arrested and the baby taken into protective custody. The two older children are reportedly with a relative.

Both were charged with manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor, possession of a police scanner in commission of a felony, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia Oct. 23. Harmon’s charges are all after

former conviction of a Felony.

Both had outstanding warrants for previous crimes.

Harmon is being held in the Mayes County Jail with combined bond amounts totaling $80,000. Sedgwick is also jailed with combined bond amounts totaling nearly $60,000.
