Cooler temps good for courthouse heat and air

Things may be looking up for the geothermal heating and air system at Mayes County Courthouse.

“Our well temperatures are coming down,” said Alva Martin, county commissioner for District 1.

Mayes County Commissioners approved renewing the county’s contract with Trane for maintenance and controls of the geothermal system.

Martin said “everything that could have gone wrong, has gone wrong” with the courthouse’s heating and air system.

“You can’t blame it on any one person,” Martin said.

Trane representative Matt Mieir said Florida Heat Pumps, the manufacturer, is willing to keep a warranty on their equipment. Martin said problems with the heat pumps have caused restrictions on the entire system.

“If we don’t get this thing cooled off, we will have to have a cooling tower,” he said.

Martin said he has checked with other companies for heating and air

maintenance.

“No one’s going to give us the same deal we’ve had in the past,” he said.

Commissioners approved Trane for an annual maintenance cost of $13,938.46. Their cost for any repairs is $85 an hour, $2 higher than the previous price of $83 an hour.

Martin said he and Mayes County Emergency Management Director Johnny Janzen will have a training session to learn how to operate the heating and

air system through Trane’s program.

Commissioners opened bids on a new pumper truck for Locust Grove Fire Department.

The high bidder for a truck with a custom built pumping system was Chief Fire & Safety at $295,114 for a 2010 engine. Chief Fire & Safety bid $280,114 for a pumper with a 2009 engine.

The low bidder, Ferrara Fire Apparatus, submitted a price of $244,980. Other

bidders were Pierce Manufacturing, $270,706, and Jon’s Mid America Fire Apparatus, $279,315.

Tyler Williams will assist Martin with the paperwork for getting right-of-ways

on the Salt Branch project

on Gaither Road. The commissioners approved paying Williams $4,900.
