Traffic south of Pryor had to be rerouted for six and a half hours after a collision yesterday.
Clint Jackson Fuqua, 30, Inola, crashed his Dodge pickup into a Kenworth semi on Highway 69. The accident occurred at 3 p.m., at the railroad tracks south of the intersection of Highway 69A. Both vehicles were southbound.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Scott Keyte, 47, Warsaw, Mo., was slowing down while approaching the tracks, per his company’s policy. Fuqua struck the back of the semi, crumpling his truck into the tanker.
MESTA transported Fuqua to St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa. Fuqua was admitted with arm, head and trunk internal injuries. Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Charles Smith reported he was in stable condition. Keyte was not injured.
Smith reported the cause of the collision was inattention.
Assistant Fire Chief Sherman Weaver said the semi was hauling ether. Weaver said the tank was breached in the collision. A hazardous materials team was summoned for cleanup. The haz mat team emptied the ether from the tanker and pumped it into another truck. The Kenworth semi was then filled with water.
Weaver said traffic had to be diverted until 9:30 p.m., after the haz mat team finished cleanup.
