Golf course goes all electric
Pryor Creek Golf Course is converting to electric heat for the golf pro shop and other buildings.
Mayor Jimmy Tramel declared an emergency situation after a major gas leak was discovered at the golf course.
Tramel said the gas leak was found at the meter on the north side of Highway 69A. The utility department pressurized the lines and discovered numerous leaks. Tramel said all the gas lines would have to be replaced.
Replacement of the gas line would cost $12,500 according to S&J; Plumbing. Tramel said Melton’s Air Conditioning & Appliance Service came to test the gas units. Melton’s reported the units are not worn out, but have little life left.
The city is paying Melton’s to convert the golf pro shop, house and cart barn from gas to electric for $9,500. The cost includes heating units, ducting and labor.
Collins Electric will upgrade the electric service for $4,000. Tramel said he contacted another electric company, but they would not submit a price for the conversion. Tramel said the U.S. Corps of Engineers is requiring the electrical upgrade. The City of Pryor leases the land for the golf course from the corps.
The city is paying S&J; Plumbing $1,500 for inspection of the gas line and the installation of water heaters.
The city has not yet reached a decision on where to place the new park building.
The city had proposed placing the new facility along Locke Street on the site of the west tennis courts, a notion that was shot down by council members in the first October council meeting. The issue was tabled for further consideration.
A citizen attending Tuesday’s council meeting let the council know he does not want the building con-
structed on the location of the tennis courts.
Tuesday, Tramel reported a notice of violation received from Building Inspector Walter Stout. The mayor said the city’s current park department building has been in violation of floodway restrictions for two years.
“They could start fining us and issuing citations any time,” Tramel said.
