Former coach charged with sex crime

A former coach and probationary teacher from Chouteau Schools was charged Monday afternoon with child sexual abuse.

Zachary George, 26, Sapulpa, surrendered himself to law enforcement, was arraigned, booked and posted a $10,000 bond all in a matter of hours.

The victim involves a 17 year-old student from the school.

According to Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Gore, George allegedly touched the girl’s breasts and vaginal area.

Finally, George asked the girl to perform a sex act.

Previously employed as a teacher / coach for Kellyville and Vinita school districts, George was hired this year by Chouteau.

The alleged incidents took place Aug. 26-27, shortly after the beginning of the school year.

School Superintendent Lisa Horn suspended the coach on Friday, Aug. 28. George immediately tendered his resignation.

However, in the next school board meeting, School Attorney Karen Long explained to board members why it was important that they decline to accept his resignation and instead accept Horn’s recommendation that George be terminated.

“We have a teacher who the superintendent feels engaged in conduct that should result in termination,” attorney Long said. “The Superintendent feels very strongly about this.”

According to Long, if the board accepted George’s resignation, the matter would have been closed.

Board members declined to accept George’s resignation, and accepted Horn’s recommendation that he be

terminated.

George is free on bond and the case is set for a preliminary sounding docket on Oct. 15, at

9:30 a.m.
