Mayes County Commissioners opened bids on asphalt and road oil Monday.

Bids on asphalt came from Tri-State and APAC.

For hot mix hot laid, Tri-State’s cost is $50 a ton for type B and $48 per ton for type C. For hot mix cold laid, Tri-State bid $64.50.

Commissioner Alva Martin, District 1, said type B asphalt is made of three-quarter inch rock, while type C is one-half inch or smaller.

APAC bid $41.30 for type B at the Claremore plant, $44.60 at the Vinita plant, $40 at Tulsa and $43.40 at Pryor. Type C is $43.80 at Claremore, $47.50 at Vinita, $42.50 at Tulsa and $46.30 at Pryor.

All prices are pickup costs only and do not include delivery.

Coastal Energy of Willow Springs, Mo., and Ergon sent bids on road oil for chipping and sealing roads.

Coastal Energy’s price for MC-3000 is $2.35 per gallon at the plant and $2.39 delivered. CRS-2 is $1.85 and CRS-2 Plus is $2.15.

Ergon bid $1.69 for CRS-2 and $1.89 for CRS-2 Plus. Delivery prices are $1.75 and $1.95.

Commissioners voted to accept the low bids on the asphalt and road oil, according to location and availability of each product.

Steve Stough, Grand River Dam Authority, asked the commissioners’ permission to run heavy equipment trucks on a county road.

GRDA plans to add more riprap to Low Water Dam, said Commissioner Darrell Yoder of District 2. Stough said GRDA would be running their trucks on Highway 69A and a portion of County Road 436. Both roads are in Yoder’s district.

Martin advised Yoder to put up a bond on the contract. Martin said he had problems on a major collector road after allowing a company to run big trucks through. Martin said he had requested the company to “maintain it and keep it passable.

“It didn’t happen,” he said.

Yoder told Stough he would take time to consider a bond and get back with him.

• The commissioners received a total of $187,521.22 in county funds. District 1 received $62,047.08 and $62,047.07 went to District 2. District 3 received $63,427.07.

• The commissioners approved a juvenile detention agreement with Tulsa County. Tulsa County will charge Mayes County $39.32 per youth per day to hold Mayes County youthful offenders.
